Reclaiming the Amazon
Miwene is a powerful, intimate documentary that invites viewers into the heart of the Waorani people’s world in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Told through their own voices, the film shares stories of resilience, deep forest knowledge, and a fierce connection to land and community—all unfolding against the backdrop of increasing outside pressures.
I had the immense honor of co-producing and co-directing Miwene alongside Waorani filmmaker Anita Gange Irumenga and filmmaker Keith Heyward. Together, we crafted a project that centers Waorani voices and perspectives, working collaboratively to shape the film’s narrative and ensure its authenticity. My role focused on helping weave the story structure, supporting cross-cultural collaboration, and amplifying the team’s shared vision.
Miwene is a celebration of Indigenous storytelling, a window into a rarely seen world, and a testament to the power of sharing stories on one’s own terms. I’m so proud to have been part of this extraordinary project.
