A Journey into the Deep
What happens when you follow the light… into darkness?
That was the question at the heart of Chasing Twilight, the feature-length film I produced and directed through Oh Sister Productions in collaboration with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This project took me—and our extraordinary team of scientists, storytellers, and filmmakers—into one of the most mysterious, least understood regions of our planet: the ocean’s twilight zone.
Also known as the mesopelagic, the twilight zone is the ocean layer between 200 and 1,000 meters deep, where sunlight barely penetrates. It’s a place of alien beauty and biological wonder: bioluminescent creatures flashing their signals in the dark, massive daily migrations of animals moving up and down through the water column, and delicate ecosystems that help regulate the Earth’s climate.
But while the twilight zone has fascinated scientists for decades, it remains largely unseen by the public. That’s what drove us to make this film.
Chasing Twilight is a cinematic journey into these depths—showcasing pioneering research, cutting-edge technology, and breathtaking imagery captured from submersibles, remotely operated vehicles, and custom-built camera systems. Through the eyes of the scientists who spend their lives unraveling this hidden world, we explore not only the wonders of deep-sea life but also the urgent conservation questions facing these ecosystems today.

Working on this project was a dream. As a science storyteller with a deep fascination for the ocean, I was captivated by the chance to blend art, science, and adventure in one ambitious film. We set out to do more than document; we wanted to immerse audiences—emotionally and visually—inside a realm that few will ever see with their own eyes.
From shimmering siphonophores to voracious bristlemouth fish, from carbon-capturing dynamics to the global stakes of deep-sea mining, Chasing Twilight is both a love letter to the unknown and a rallying cry for its protection.
Coming Soon
I’m are honored to premiere the film alongside WHOI, bringing these vital stories of the deep to audiences around the world. And I’m proud to continue amplifying its message through screenings, museum installations, and educational partnerships.
Because the twilight zone may be hidden, but its future is deeply entwined with our own.
