Twilight Zone Featured at National Geographic’s Storyteller’s Summit

Last February, I had the honor of presenting at the National Geographic Society’s Storyteller’s Summit for Works in Progress, where Explorers, filmmakers, photographers, and journalists share the creative journeys they’re charting right now.

My presentation focused on the body of work I’ve been creating with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution—a multi-project collaboration that dives into some of the most mysterious, awe-inspiring places on our planet. From Chasing Twilight, our cinematic exploration of the ocean twilight zone and its shimmering, bioluminescent creatures, to cutting-edge projects developing new ways to film deep-sea ecosystems, bringing the unseen into view.

During my presentation, titled Unveiling the Ocean’s Twilight Zone, I shared behind-the-scenes stories about the challenges and breakthroughs we’ve encountered—whether that’s finding the right visual language to express complex marine science, designing novel light sources for deep-sea cinematography, or translating scientific discovery into emotionally resonant, immersive storytelling.

What made the summit so meaningful wasn’t just the chance to showcase footage or ideas—it was the opportunity to connect with fellow Explorers who offered insights, sparked new questions, and reminded me why we do this work in the first place. Together, we’re building stories that bridge science and art, inspiring people to care about the most hidden corners of our world.

A huge thanks to the National Geographic Society for supporting this work and creating a space where storytellers can share, challenge, and uplift one another. There’s so much more on the horizon—stay tuned!
